My memoir is currently on submission… [insert praying emoji here]
ABOUT THE BOOK:
On the one hand, I’m an unreliable narrator. While severely depressed, my memory was impaired, my emotions erratic, soaked in sadness disproportionate to my life’s circumstances. But on the other hand, I’m the most reliable source you could read about what it feels like to free-fall through our mental health system.
I can still feel the emotions acutely, even after ten years of healing, and I bore witness to the range of attitudes toward mental illness. But I have fact-checked my memories. I have culled through records and reports from my seven different psychiatric hospitalizations. I have tallied up and researched the medications prescribed—at least fifteen different combinations in ten months. I’ve become an expert on pharmacogenetic testing—the cutting-edge technology that saved my life.
I know what it’s like to stare into the dark, but I also know what it’s like to flip on the light switch. This isn’t just about me.
I’m Not Crazy illuminates the systemic issues that need to be addressed to make mental healthcare more effective for more people.
